WINNER – Nice Kicks
understand the competitor 7 hours before going on vacation ( it was 11 autopsy , and I left at 6 am ) , did n’t give me much time . All my camera gear was packed , and my tripod was n’t even in my house . Propping my 7D on a stool in front of a bloodless wall , I strike some exposures of me doing some taekwondo boot . I fag my red dobok ( trouser ) as I thought they would show up better . unluckily the outcome were n’t good ; the degraded motion , low light source and white wall just meant the Bolshevik and my pelt hardly showed up . So , I had an old dark downcast screen and decide to forge a pair of nail into my wall and hang it up ( yes , late at Nox ) . Everything showed up better , but exposure longer than 3.2s meant things were getting over - exposed , and cease down my aperture made me disappear . Anyway , today I made the final composition . Using a fast one I use for make night - sky long - exposure , I stack 3 frames in Photoshop and set the layer to lighten up . This mean that I could have more movement in the picture without the blowout . I used levels and reduced the blue background knowledge colour to black and added a boarder , and then skewed the curve to make it into something that I saw as an abstract piece of art . Canon 7D , EF - S 17 - 55 mm , f/6.3 , 3.2s

Dance of the Two Veils
I ’m usually the one behind the camera but , since I could n’t ask my married man to do the veil dance , I ’m in the shot this hebdomad and he take the picture . I puzzle the veil from Goodwill and cock around the room like a crazy womanhood . I was silhouetted against a windowpane cover by a white sheet . We used a 1/3sec exposure to get the move blur and used a fill flash to tot up a small definition . Canon T2i 50 mm .

The Saxophonist
On see this competition , two thoughts came to beware : 1 ) This is a groovy opportunity for a ego - portrait and 2 ) I do n’t know of anything that better goes with move than music . So , I set up the camera on the tripod in a way with a somewhat theatrical - look curtain , illuminated the room with nothing more than a blank tv set filmdom , pull out my saxophone , and set out to produce a motion - filled exposure of myself jamming . 10 seconds did the trick sacrifice the amount of ignition that I had allowed and the amount of motion that I wanted to capture . Nikon D600 , 70 - 200 genus Lens at 70 mm , ISO 100 , f/2.8 , 10.0 s

Insomniac
I ’m a lightheaded sleeper , and I wonder what it calculate like to wake up shortly , pull in it ’s not yet prison term for work , and flow back deceased with relief . So , I setup a tripod over my layer , installed a 20 - wattt electric light overhead , and shot down at myself with a 20 - second picture . Nikon D700 , Nikon AF Nikkor 20 mm f/2.8 lens , ISO 100 , f/8 , 20 seconds , Converted to b / w in Adobe Lightroom

Certified By Tutu
I decided to shoot a friend I know through concert dance for this challenge , mostly because she is cracking dancer and has adorable communication channel , but specially because she has a proper tutu ! We sample several different ballet steps with different exposure times , but the best one was just a unsubdivided back bend where the tutu doll stay nearly stationary . Neither of us have large house and did n’t have entree to the ballet studio , so I tap my mobile headphone in flashlight mode to the ceiling to make a spotlight in hopes that the screen background would remain dark enough . It worked middling well and only take a small bit of level adjustment in Emily Price Post - production to remove what was leave of the background . The tutu shadows her leg altogether , but I left the blank space where they would be so the photo looks proportionally correct . Canon 550D 18 - 55 mm EF - S IS , f/3.5 , 1.6 sec , ISO 1600

Flash Dance
All of the snow melted and I could n’t make a snowfall angel as originally planned . It was warm enough that I could take off my shirt and use a couple LED flashlights to make it seem I have 10 arms though . I used a bright work luminousness about 15 feet away to get the constant sparkle I demand . I used Aperture to withdraw some of the neighbors lights in the background and to reduce the intensity . Gear and configurations : Canon T3i , Tamron 18 - 270 genus Lens at 46 mm , ISO 100 , f/5 , and 6 2d exposure .

Beats
My friend is a drummer . So , when I say this challenge , I think of him . We put some music on and forth he travel . I did n’t get quite the effect I wanted with one dead reckoning , so I used a combination of GIMP and Lightroom to layer and grow the shot . Canon Rebel XSI and Kit Lens , f/4.5 , 1.3 sec , ISO 100

Game On
This was taken with a Lumix GF-3 with stock 14 mm electron lens this dawn while my Word was play . I had the photographic camera on an empty cardboard box for the five second exposure . I crop the pic so that you could focus more on him and his sphere of play alternatively of showing you more of my messy living room . As you’re able to see , he has a bunch of toy to play with . Does he play with any of them ? No , he chose our cats ’ ratty cardboard scratcher to tear aside . He is incessantly in motion , as you may see . I do n’t retrieve if he was sitting up to look at the photographic camera or leaning forward to continue his play . I just opine it was interesting to see him frozen in three different position as he complete his question .

Blow Out
When a former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader agrees to be your subject you have no other option but to shoot a line Gizmodo ’s corporate brain . Camera : 5d Mark III , 24 - 70 f/2.8L ( 40 mm ) , f/10 , 5.0s , ISO 250

Brooke
This is a Wet - Plate Collodion tintype shot using a combination of natural light and Profoto strobe light .
It was shot with an antique C.C. Harrison administration Petzval lense mounted to a ego - build wooden view camera .
The exposure was roughly 6 second and I had the model rotate in natural light while I popped the strobe occasionally during the 6 second picture . Half - dental plate Tintype .
