When the light go out , everything we do n’t see nonplus all that much more beautiful . Here areyour photosof nighttime .

Winner: Quiet

These were shot on a Canon SL1 with the outfit electron lens 18 - 55 mm . These were taken on the outskirts of Lake Del Valle Park around Livermore . ISO 400 , f5.6 , 20sec . I define my warning equipment for midnight and I took off , it was n’t too scary because the moon actually gives of a good amount of igniter but I was only taking moving-picture show for about 20 - 25 minutes before a auditory sensation proceed getting close and stuffy . I am about 90 % certain it was just a cow but I did n’t feel like adventure it after reading a clump of /r / nosleep . The light you see is n’t the aurora or sunset but rather the light coming from the metropolis .

Our Galaxy

This was my first time ever photographing the Milky Way . I used an older Canon Rebel xsi . Anyway , this weekend i went bivouacking at Zion National ballpark , Utah and decided to take my camera with me . I slenderly edited the photo in photoshop ( total noob ) . I ’m able to render the original as well . Anyway , here is the photograph !

I went out after hearing that we would be able-bodied to see the northerly lights in Indiana . I did n’t find them but I did n’t want to consume the chance of the dark . Set up a wireless photoflash in the intersection , set the timekeeper , and walked out about 20 feet in front of the photographic camera .

The Superstition Storm

I decided to go inquire out to a piazza called The Superstition Mountains in Phoenix . I was not expecting there to be a giant tempest that night but low-spirited and behold there was . I ended up setting my camera on continuous shot at 30 sec exposure and persist for top . Ended up taking a Taco Bell cup of tea and using that to keep the rain off the photographic camera while I sat in my cable car . uncalled-for to say , I am glad I went out that Nox .

Two Guns at Night

An honest-to-god desert Route 66 trading post off I-40 now in Northern Arizona . Somewhat creepy located steadfastly in the centre of nowhere . impractical dark , just before a storm hit , so last night of clear ski this workweek . The Structure is just above Canyon Diablo . Further adding to the creepiness of the domain is the history of the execution is lay out below .

Shot with Nikon D810 with the 14 - 24 f2.8 lens at 14 mm f 2.8 , 30 second photo at ISO 2500 . Mounted on a Gitzo 2500 series tripod using a Nikon MC-36 controller . One whirl of light painting with a slot down light-emitting diode convert Mini - Maglight .

Car Love

tv camera is repose on the ground propped up slightly by a tripod plateful . Did n’t have a cable release so ca n’t do proper bulb pic . The picture did n’t change by reversal out that great but I think serviceable and saturnine . Raw processing done with DxO and then some place with actually Google Photo .

Main reason I went out to charge was because of the Aurora , but nowhere near me has beneficial enough horizon view to see the northerly Horizon . terminate up just snapping a few pics of Tree and my car … We are ingest a ardent workweek here in SE Michigan and temperature is low 60 at night , which is just beautiful , so I do n’t feel bad at all sitting on the ground in a random Mungo Park ’s parking lot … .Camera is a Sony A77II , with a Minolta AF 28 F2 Lens

My Sanctuary

I have been shoot this lighthouse for over a year now . This is one of my favourite places to take photos at night , It is my sanctuary . It always has something fresh and beautiful to offer . As soon as I saw that there was a Night exposure challenge , I know just where I want to shoot ! Enjoy ! Shot using a Nikon D610 with a Tokina 11 - 16 mm at F2.8 ISO 1000 pic 19 second .

Pastel Street

alas there is n’t a existent good story to this one . I was leaving a pub tardily last night and there were some pinch bunch keep up traffic . I stood in the middle of the street and remove a few shot and walked away . It was n’t until I spell them that I encounter how the coloration pop off of everything , and had an amazing pastel effect to it . Had I noticed that I plausibly would of stayed out all nighttime shooting . Shot on Canon 5diii with a peachy - fifty , 1.4 , 1/200 , 200iso .

Dunedin Causeway

This is a guess bring on Monday evening just after sunset on the Dunedin Causeway in Dunedin , Florida . I go out specifically because of the new adjustment to our clocks and the loss of day so early now . Not a fan of the twice a year shock to our systems , but going out and have a piddling fun helps ease into the young turn . The light trails are from a auto going by and jounce up and down in all the divots in the sand on the beach . This causeway is a great spotlight to fish , exercise , launch boat , watch sunset , and pay heed out after dark right on the Gulf of Mexico . Truly , a large blank space ! I used : Nikon D750 , 38 mm ( 24 - 120 f/4 ) , f/9 , 15 moment , ISO 100

Phoenix

This photo is a double exposure ; one 30 second picture of the Phoenix skyline at f/5 , and one 30 second exposure of the star above at f/3.5 . Both were at ISO 100 . I wanted to get both the adept in the sky and the city in the same shot , but it was really mirky that night , so I had to improvise . I shoot this with a Canon 7D , using the standard 18 - 5 millimetre outfit lens . The plane trails in the sky was an unintentional but very welcome incentive , and I think it really adds to the picture .

Planetary Reflection

About an hour before sunrise on Sunday morning , I run out to a pond near the Pennsylvania borderline . My approach upset some rest goofball , who honked loudly in protestation . The Moon , Venus , Mars , and Jupiter in coalition made for a striking sight along the bound of the pool . I wish I had amount out earlier , as the farseeing exposure picked up quite a bit of the pre - sunrise brightness , and the moon and planets were obtain high in sky . I also got a great shot of the pass ISS in front of Ursa Major , but choose this one for the symmetry and brightness . Tripod mounted Canon G7x , 2 2nd timer , f/5 , 30 second exposure , ISO-125 . Edited with GIMP .

Technicality

Copter

I ’ve just latterly gotten into picture taking but have always been a fan of the shooting challenge . So when this challenge came up I immediately knew what I wanted my subject to be . I work for a whirlybird zephyr ambulance party and I wanted to get this neat picture of my aircraft under the stars . So I move into work on my twenty-four hour period off a few hr after obscure to get a flick and literally as presently as I walked through the door , the work party arrive a prospect flight request . So alternatively of a starry night , I was challenged with getting a skilful delineation , without a trice , of the chopper with it ’s intense position and anti - collision igniter on . In all , I remember it number out alright , but I ’m going to be going back at some breaker point to endeavor to get the original exposure I desire . Photo was have with a Nikon D80 , F3.8 , ISO100 with a 30 2nd exposure .

Lucky

I was golden to be far away from light pollution in the Flat Tops Wilderness Area backpack hunting this calendar week and had a clear night the first night but no tripod so I ended up lead WIDE ( 15 mm ) and setting the tv camera on it ’s back using the self timer . The winding was spoil about 40 mph so you ’ll see the motion in the trees but I liked how they contrasted with the star as points of sparkle and the Milky Way . Nikon D750 , Nikon 14 - 24 f/2.8 @15 mm f/2.8 30s ISO3200

Northern Lights

I got the alarum of a geomagnetic violent storm on Monday . It continue on to Tuesday . After a night of shooting over the prairie Monday , I decided to give the mountains a try on Tuesday . I snuff it to a spot I knew of that was north facing in the Alberta Rockies , about an 60 minutes outside of Calgary . It was reasonably inhuman , with about 25 centimetre of fresh snow on the ground . My feet got a little cold , but the first light show did not disappoint . Here is the northerly lights with the swelled Wagon visible with some courteous mountain foreground . I am still just learning – buy my first DSLR in July . snap on a Canon SL1 , 18 mm , f/3.5 ( lowest I have available currently ) , 1600 ISO , 4 seconds . Minor edit in lightroom to work out the colours and get rid of some interference , but this is fundamentally what my eye was seeing . There was rapid motility in the aurora , so I had to keep the exposure on the short side . Two night of shooting into the forenoon with workplace the next day pass over me out this calendar week , but the icon I captured were so worth it !

Brooklyn

This shot was lead on a Canon 5D Mark II with a 35 mm fixed lens at f/8 , ISO 400 , 6 2nd vulnerability . This is from the recently open cap of my gamy - rise in Fort Greene , Brooklyn . Never really took the time to get up there at night ( I gauge one can take cap access for granted sometimes ) , so decided to go up with my television camera for this challenge . try out dissimilar mise en scene with a narrow aperture , but this shot was just the most crisp .

From the Flames, Dust

I strike advantage of the former Illinois night to capture this image over the weekend . I drive 40 minutes outside of my medium sized Ithiel Town to escape the light , but they are still there , glowing orange on the horizon . On the positive side , I was happy to find that it was a clean-cut enough night that I could see the whitish Way with my eyes as well as through the camera . I always delight gaze at a darken nighttime sky , watching the satellite vanish past as more and more stars reveal themselves .

This was my first time working with altogether images from my television camera . I decide this was a good time to examine it out so I could get all the details of the night sky . I do n’t really have the good apparatus to capture a star - filled sky . My camera has an APS - C sensor ( smaller forcible size ) so noise is a bigger issue . In addition , I do n’t have any prime lenses with a extensive loose F / stop , so I had to utilize my general 16 - 80 millimetre lens with its widest setting . All in all , I am quite happy with the result . Sony A77 , 16 mm , f/3.5 , 13 sec . , ISO 5000

High Trestle Trail

scene of the High Trestle Trail bridge about 35 minute NW of Des Moines , Iowa . Over the preceding 10 years , Iowa and Des Moines have been aware of the increasing telephone number of cyclists and gamey demand of nice trails . The High Trestle Trail , about 25 international mile , is built on a former railway line seam , previously owned by Union Pacific Railroad . The bridge circuit itself overlooks the Des Moines River . During biking season any given week sees about 3000 bikers , walkers , and runners on the trail . At night part of the bridgework light up up , and is a hotspot for dark time rockers and imbiber . Taking this image required about a half mile walk of life in staring duskiness .

In for the Night

There is a minuscule retention pond in the parking lot of one of the local flight strip malls . It does n’t seem all that noteworthy until Nox fall . When it gets dark , piles of long legged wading birds resolve it is the perfect place to roost . The night I took the pic there were around 50 Sir Henry Joseph Wood storks and another dozen rosaceous spoonbills .

Unseasonable

I was in Chicago shooting some interviews for a documentary about the banding Jawbreaker . On the first day , my shoot wrap betimes and it was unseasonably warm in chicago , So I grabbed 3 television camera and my skateboard and make the streets . I skate all over that urban center and found myself at the end of the day head up the sears tower . I spend a few hours watching the light modulation from Day to night and took many photos with my three cameras ( go pro hero4 smutty , Hasselblad Xpan , and fuji x100s ) . Have n’t begin the moving-picture show from the xpan developed yet , but thus far , this was my pet pic of the nighttime . I have it away the way the endless parallel streets of chicago slice into the distance . From this height it almost feels like a look at some futuristic motherboard .

Zion National Park

take a courteous picayune road trip to search Zion National Park this weekend . Some acquaintance forget a night to begin with than we had planned so I decide to use my extra time to take the retentive route back to Denver so I could see Horseshoe Bend . Due to the timing of how everything played out , the only mode I could see the Bend in any kind of daylight is if I camped out there which meant a 10 hour Sunday movement home after seeing it . see that to be unsuitable , I select to explore the bend at dark .

Having never been to Horseshoe Bend , I was unfamiliar of the 3/4 mile hike to get there . No problem , but still 3/4 Roman mile more hiking than I gestate or wanted to do after after boost all daytime at Zion and then drive over . I strapped my headlamp on , packed a few beer , a collation , chair , and my camera gear and fix out . I arrived at where I thought the crimp was and confirmed as much with a satellite aspect on Google Maps . After killing my headlight and allow my raw nightvision kvetch in , I could faintly see the bend and the water when I got near to the cliff . move around anywhere remotely close to the edge at night was all unnerving and , frankly , terrific . I took some nice landscape shots of the Bend itself , but then depart playing around and I particularly liked how this shot turned out . sure enough worth all the butterflies and US Army grovel I did trying to pose my tripod and avoid certain dying .

Sunset on the Lake

I was driving home from work today and caught a coup d’oeil of this incredible sunset over a lake near my star sign in suburban New Hampshire , so I pulled over and snap this picture with my Canon point - and - shoot camera . The expression on the H2O look pixelated , but it ’s actually just an optical magic from the ripples .
