Honestly , it seems like silk pajamas are on a downswing in popularity . Which is a damnshame . But theMediated MatterResearch Group ( part of the MIT Media Lab ) recently put thousand of silkworms to work on an architectural project that combines the worms ’ rude talent with computer modeling .

Silk Pavilionconsists of 26 silk polygons which act as the construction of the piece . Made of silk thread laid by a Computer - Numerically Controlled ( CNC ) machine , the polygons were a guide on which to localise 6,500 silkworms which give rise natural , unprocessed silk patches . The silkworms worked until the whole social organisation had been cover .

The CNC used an algorithm that had analyzed the patterns in worm - generated patch of silk , and then make the first stratum of structure . The giant silkworm themselves created the second horizontal surface , solve as a sort of natural 3D printer . This gets to the marrow of the slice as an interplay between lifelike and digital construction . The next trend in interior conception should definitely be loosing thousands of silk worm on your house and letting them redecorate . [ Creative Applications ]
