Cheadle on Iron Man 2: “It’s More CGI Than Me”

Don Cheadlehas been talking about the experience of stepping into James Rhodes ’ armoured shoes in next year’sIron Man 2 , revealing the questions that drive him , and explaining why there ’s more to him than … well , him , in the film .

When asked what the most surprising aspect of makingIron Man2 was , Cheadle give a surprising answer :

I did n’t expect the “ Rhodey CGI ” character to work more daylight than me . I did n’t think my stuntman would work as many day as I did . But you know , really it ’s a combining of your work . You ’re in this movement capture causa , then stuntmen do some material , you get to do some hooey , then they do n’t need any of you and they draw it themselves .

That does n’t stand for that Cheadle was n’t able to convey some actorly questions to the role , however :

I just really had more interrogative sentence than answers about the relationship . When I look back over the comic Book , all of the different iterations of Iron Man and Rhodey that there have been , the one affair that seemed like it was always there was this friendship . There was a real friendship and underlying kinship . I was always asking , “ Where did it come from ? What ’s it based on ? How tenuous is it , now that Tony is kind of a devoid agent and Rhodey is a military man ? How does that work ? ” That ’s what drive my questions about our relationship for the whole film … “ Why are these guys admirer ? On what level do they link and on what horizontal surface do they miss each other ? ” So it was constantly tweaking stuff , improv - ing a circle and grinding over shot to visualize out how that worked .

More importantly , perhaps , on what level is Cheadle ’s James Rhodes able-bodied to carry a spin - off movie by himself … ? Not that he ’s offering any hints about that right now :
