Jason Wells got to toy around with a few auction block of Aerogel , the fantastically light ( and fabulously expensive ) cloth made famous by its consumption as insulation in NASA spacecraft like the Mars Rover . Using just everyday textile from his house , he managed to quiz the futurist product ’s strength , optical property , response to different liquids and temperatures , and electric conduction . He concludes from the experiment that it should work really well as a fire retardent or insulation , as well as draw moisture out of pretty much anything ( including his finger ! ) . Aerogel weigh only three times as much as air , but is even more in effect than your everyday pink insulation . It may only be the world ’s coolest insulation material , but are you the world ’s cool anything ? Did n’t recollect so . [ Jason WellsviaCrunchgear ]
